SNG Punjab team together with the KP team organised a two-day knowledge exchange session from December 27-28, 2017 for the KP Finance department on the Public Financial Management (PFM) reforms introduced in Punjab with the technical assistance of SNG Punjab team.
The PFM reforms in Punjab included the establishment of specialised units: Debt Management Unit (DMU), Corporate Finance Unit (CFU), Tax Reform Unit (TRU) and the implementation of Financial Management Information Systems (FMIS) in local government entities through Local Fund Audit (LFA) Department and Punjab Municipal Developmemt Fund Company (PMDFC).
As part of this knowledge exchange activity, overall 6 sessions were lined up. On the first day of the scheduled activity, heads of each specialised unit led their discussion sessions. The second day had presentations on FMIS for local governments, Pension Fund Management and Output Based Budgeting.
This cross pollination of knowledge between the two provinces enabled KP government to benefit in terms of having first-hand information experience on the success of reforms along with their associated challenges, which may influence the introduction of similar PFM reforms in their province as well.
